Perseverance has operated exploration and open pit mining in Victoria since the early 1990's. These works have been carried out under the control of various authorities ,with regular reviews of performance.
The three sites where mining has occurred, Nagambie, Baileston and Fosterville have had extensive monitoring of air, noise, water and vibration, which has demonstrated that environmental impacts have been managed within the prescribed limits and without detriment to the local or regional environment.
Rehabilitation, although carried out progressively during operations, has reached various stages at the three sites due to the differing periods since cessation of operations at Baileston and Nagambie. The extensive use of species propagated from plants indigenous to the sites, for revegetation has been demonstratably effective, with high levels of growth and generally improved levels of species diversity.
Since mining is a highly visible activity and during operations produces a raw landscape, it is sometimes difficult to convey to onlookers what the medium and long term landscape effects will be. The Company is now well able to demonstrate the rehabilitation results it will produce for the sites. The Company plans for these sites to be both productive, varied and interesting land forms with healthy native floral and faunal environments.
Those interested in finding out more about these environmental management practices and results are invited to contact the Company.
The 2005 Annual Community and Environment Report is being prepared.
